<idAbs>

As part of assessing and determining an application for a flood work approval, a search of this spatial dataset must be undertaken. All applications for a flood work approval must demonstrate that flood or flow connectivity is maintained to these ecological assets. Flood-dependent ecological assets rely on flooding to maintain their ecological character and sustain essential processes. Flood-dependent ecological assets are identified in floodplain management plans to support their protection, which in turn provides social and economic benefits to the community.

The ecological assets have been identified using the best available vegetation mapping and survey information including the NSW State Vegetation Type Map (C2.0 M2.0 December 2023 release) and wetland mapping including:

Billabong Creek wetlands (Leslie & Maher, 2000)

Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia (DCCEEW, 2016)

Mitchell Landscapes Version 2 (for Murrumbidgee Lakes, Swamps and Lunettes) (DECC, 2002)

NSW Hydro Area dataset which contains delineations of named wetlands

Wetlands of West Hume – Corowa (Webster & Davidson 2003)

Yanco Creek Wetlands (Webster, 2007)

Yanco-Billabong Creek Broad-scale Wetland Monitoring Project (Walcott et. al, 2018)

</idAbs>

<idPurp>Identified ecological assets within the Billabong Creek Floodplain, which have been used to inform the development of the management zones for the Floodplain Management Plan for the Billabong Creek Floodplain 2026. The identified ecological assets are also used to assess flood work applications in accordance with the rules and assessment criteria in the floodplain management plan. This dataset has been used to prepare the Ecological assets map number FMP045_Version 1.</idPurp>
