All applications for a flood work approval must demonstrate that flood or flow connectivity is maintained to these ecological assets. Flood-dependent ecological assets rely on flooding to maintain their ecological character and sustain essential processes. Flood-dependent ecological assets are identified in floodplain management plans to support their protection, which in turn provides social and economic benefits to the community. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>The ecological assets have been identified using the best available vegetation mapping and survey information including the NSW State Vegetation Type Map (C1.1.M1.1 December 2022 release) and wetland mapping including:</SPAN></P><UL><LI><P><SPAN>Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia (DCCEEW, 2016)</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>River Murray Wetlands Database (NSW Murray Wetlands Working Group, 2006)</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Wetlands of the River Murray (Pressey, 1986)</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>NSW Hydro Area dataset which contains delineations of named wetlands</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Mitchell Landscapes version 3.1 (for Murray Lakes, Swamps and Lunettes) (DECC, 2002)</SPAN></P></LI></UL></DIV></DIV></DIV> NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water - Water Group; NSW Conservation Programs, Heritage and Regulation Group Identified ecological assets within the NSW Murray Valley Floodplain, which have been used to inform the development of the management zones for the Floodplain Management Plan for the NSW Murray Valley Floodplain 2026. The identified ecological assets are also used to assess flood work applications in accordance with the rules and assessment criteria in the floodplain management plan. This dataset has been used to prepare the Ecological assets map FMP051_Version 1 <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV STYLE="font-size:12pt"><P><SPAN>PLEASE NOTE: In the case of any discrepancy between this digital dataset and the published Floodplain Management Plan (accessible on the department’s website) the instrument as made by the Minister remains the authoritative source and should be used to both interpret the intent of the Plan and in subsequent decision making.
