The Billabong Creek Floodplain boundary delineates the area to which the Floodplain Management Plan for the Billabong Creek Floodplain 2026 applies. The area within the boundary is declared to be a floodplain under the Water Management (General) Regulation 2025.
The floodplain is 6934 km2 in area and extends downstream from Walbundrie in the east to the junction of Billabong Creek and the NSW Murray Valley Floodplain at Moulamein, and includes the area within the repealed localised FMP and associated floodplain. The floodplain boundary includes the southern end of the Yanco Creek system from Kidman Way.
The floodplain connects with the floodplain boundaries for the Murrumbidgee and NSW Murray valley floodplains improving the assessment of cumulative impacts from individual flood works across the Murray–Darling Basin.
A combination of hydraulic and administrative factors, where appropriate, have been used to develop the floodplain boundary including:
• inundation data within the Murrumbidgee catchment
• hydraulic model development
• the previous localised Billabong Creek FMP
• water source boundaries, as established in water sharing plans
• local government areas
• major roads and railways which act as barriers to large scale flood movement.

",
